Block C:
In class today, Mrs. DiFonzo gave a presentation to prepare you for applying to college. We'll be working on developing a personal essay later this week. To prepare, please read and annotate your (tiny, sorry!) copies of excerpts from Sandra Cisneros' collection of vignettes titled The House on Mango Street. We'll talk about how this format could work for your own personal essay writing.
Block E:
Today in class we started by taking an entry ticket quiz. Most of you did very well! We finished watching the documentary Children of the Plains, which you can watch if you were out by hitting the link here.
For tonight, study your new vocabulary words and be sure that you are up-to-date in True Diary (you should have read to page 81).
Block F:
Tonight, I'd like you to make some connections between the two texts we've been studying: "Death by Landscape" and Smoke Signals. Clearly, the texts contain two very different story lines. However, despite these differences, they share many of the same story ELEMENTS. Consider one of the elements that you have been tracing on your OBSERVATION sheets, and explore in a paragraph or two HOW each author uses the element to enhance the story and make meaning.
