Wednesday 1/29/14

Block A:
Bring your Six word Memoir.
Read the excerpts from the nonfiction texts I gave you. Complete the analysis sheet for your assigned story for Friday.
Bring your independent reading book to Friday's class!

Block B:
Prepare for our Vocabulary Festival of Fun on Friday (how's that for alliteration!)

Here are the guidelines:

You must write a story. You have this block to complete it.
  • It must be “inspired by” one of the provided illustrations.
  • It must contain all of the assigned vocabulary words, used correctly (consider nuanced meaning as well as part of speech).
  • It must somehow incorporate the words/places/people on the cards you are given.
  • Additionally, you must include the following:
    • One sentence must contain a colon.
    • One sentence must contain a statistic.
    • One sentence must contain a metaphor.
    • One sentence must focus on a sensory detail (taste/touch/smell/sound/sight).
    • One sentence must include repetition for emphasis.
    • One sentence must be a rhetorical question.
    • One sentence must start with a subordinating conjunction.
    • One sentence must be just one word.
    • One sentence must be 15 words long, and must contain a coordinating conjunction.
    • One sentence must contain a semi-colon.
GOOD LUCK!

At the end of the block, divide up the work in the following way, due FRIDAY:

  • One person takes the story home and types it up.
  • One person creates an illustration to accompany it (to be shown in class and likely displayed).
  • One person (two, if there are 4 people in your group) prepares a dramatic reading of the story for Friday’s (Monday’s) class. Costume suggested.
