Wednesday 3.30.16: Homework

Block G:
Write up a reflection on what you heard in our seminar on Juno today.  Keep in mind the project that you will be working on as part of your reflection.

Block B:
Finish reading up to page 80 in The Great Gatsby. Use your reading road map to help you focus.

Block C:
On Friday we will resume reading Chapter 5 in Gatsby. For tonight, study your new vocabulary words and read your independent reading book.

Tuesday 3.29.2016: Homework

Block B:
Write sentences for your new vocabulary words. Review your reading road map for Chapter 3 in Gatsby. 

Block C:
Write sentences for your new vocabulary words. Review your reading road map for Chapter 3 in Gatsby.
Finish your comic strip for the section you were assigned from Chapter 4.

Block E:
Work on your bracket piece, as well as brainstorm a story idea for your project.

Prepare for Book Club on Friday.

Monday 3.28.16: Homework

Block E:
1. Read the excerpt from Stephen King's fantastic book titled On Writing. Ponder his advice, and come to class ready to discuss.
2. Write up your bracket duel, and be sure to include the result of the battle. Brackets continue tomorrow!

Block F:
1. Write out sentences for the new vocabulary words I handed out today.
2. Review your annotations on the scholarly article we read on Frankenstein last week. Remember that you will be charged with writing a similar type of scholarly article on one of the two films we are studying and its relationship to Shelley's Frankenstein. 
3. Write a reflection on what you heard in our seminar today.

Block G:
Prepare for the Socratic Seminar we will have on Juno on Wednesday. If you have not seen the ENTIRE film, you need to come after school to do so before Wednesday to watch what you missed. Or, borrow or rent the DVD. If you plan to participate fully in the seminar, you will need to see the entire film. No excuses.

Block G:

Add on to the one-pager you started on the film Juno and its connection to Frankenstein. Prepare for a Socratic seminar when we return. The question that we will consider is:

What do these two texts, in combination, have to say about: the nature of growing up

, issues of coming of age, the roles and responsibilities of parents, and the

 substantial consequences of giving birth, among many other ideas.  

Friday 3.18.16: Homework

Block F:
Write a one-pager on Juno for Monday. We will finish the film and then have a Socratic seminar.

Block G:
Write a one-pager on what we've watched thus far of Juno. We will finish the film on Monday.

Block B:
Read from page 50 to the bottom of page 58 in Chapter 3 in Gatsby. Use your road map to guide your reading, and be sure to annotate carefully! Reading quiz on Tuesday!

Block C:
Read and annotate up to the stopping point on page 80 in Gatsby. Review what we've already read in the chapter as well so that you will be ready for a reading check. We will finish the chapter together on Tuesday.
