Monday 1.30.17: Course Selection Day

Blocks A and B:
Review your notes and watch the last 10 minutes of the A&E documentary we watched in class. We'll discuss the connections you made when we next meet.





Block D and F:
If you did not finish writing your response to "In the Field," do so tonight. 

Block C:
Finish reading Walton's letters which frame the novel Frankenstein. We'll dive it to our discussion tomorrow. 
Also, study for your Top 40 Vocabulary test scheduled for Thursday!

Blocks A and B:
Complete your "Hindsight is 20/20" writing assignment and submit it to our google classroom. Be sure to submit it to Turnitin.com by Tuesday as well.

Block C:
We will have our book club meeting on Tuesday 1.17. Be ready! You do not need to prepare anything in advance, but you should be ready to write about what you've read.

Sorry folks...I've had some trouble posting to the blog during the last two school days. Here's what is up!


Block A and B:
Work on your 'Hindsight is 20/20" writing assignment due on Tuesday 1.17.17. Follow directions and use the mentor text to guide you (attached to our google classroom).

Block C:
Begin working on your essay revision. We'll meet in the library on Friday to work.
Read your book club book. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 1.17.

Block D:
Write your two paragraph response to "The Sweetheart of the Song Tra-Bong" due on Thursday. Be sure to refer to the language of the text in your response.

Study for your vocabulary quiz on words 45-50 tomorrow.

Block F:

Friday 1.6.17: Homework

Block A and B:
Read over the "Hindsight is 20/20" assignment sheet and the mentor text. Bring your questions and ideas to class on Monday. We'll discuss the assignment before we start the film.

Study for your vocabulary quiz next week as well!

Block C:
Prepare for the workshop sessions we will run on Tuesday. Carefully mark up both essays and complete the writing checklists for each essay as well. Follow the instructions on the blue handout to be sure that you are ready to workhop on Tuesday!

Also, get a copy of your new book club book and start reading!

Block D:
Complete the Venn diagrams on the story "The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong" in the blue packet I gave you today.

Study for your vocabulary quiz next week as well.

Block B: 
Complete the Gatsby Opinionaire for homework tonight. Be sure to use the text to support your response.

Block C:
Get started on your new book club book. We will finish Stand By Me tomorrow and begin workshopping your essays next week.

Block D:
Study your new vocabulary words. We'll be starting a new story tomorrow!

Block F:
Complete the first two Venn diagrams for the beginning and middle of the story titled "The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong." Read up to the stop sign on page 6.

Block D:
1. Read "Spin" in the collection from The Things They Carried
2. Write one question and one comment that you have about the story.
3. Work on your story map for "On the Rainy River." You will have about 30 minutes of time to finish tomorrow in class.

Block F:
Write sentences for your new vocabulary words.

Block A:
Finish reading the last few pages of the novel. Then, complete the "Opinionaire" for Friday. Follow the directions on the handout, and use the text for support to complete your responses!

Read and annotate the story "Spin" in the collection from The Things They Carried.


Blocks A and B:
Read and annotate the beginning part of Chapter 9 in Gatsby. Stop at the bottom of page 181. We will finish the novel together in class tomorrow.

Block C:
Procure a copy of your new book club selection and begin reading. Our first book club meeting will be held on Wednesday 1.11.17.
