Friday 2/26/16: Homework

Block C:
1. Read and annotate to the stopping point on page 9 of The Great Gatsby. In this section, Nick will tell us a little more about his family from the midwest, as well as why he moved to the East coast last year. He will also tell us about West Egg and East Egg, so take note of the details he includes about those two places which are part of Long Island, New York. I will show you a map and some photos when we meet again.
Remember, there will be a reading check at the start of each class, so be sure to read carefully so you will be ready!

2. Study you new vocabulary words. Quiz is on Tuesday 3/1/16.

3. Continue to work on your essay revision project. We'll touch base again with your essays on Tuesday.

Block E:
Read and annotate "The Girl Detective" for Monday.
Write up your PASS-it-ON character sketch for Monday and bring it to class to share!

Block F:
Read and annotate Chapters 13-14 in Frankenstein, completing your Creature chart as you read.
Study your vocabulary words for Tuesday's quiz.
Get your book club book for Monday!

Block G:
Read Chapters 11-12 in Frankenstein, completing your Creature chart as you read.
Study your vocabulary words for Tuesday's quiz.

Thursday 2/25/16: Homework

Block E:

Your choice piece is due tomorrow! Come to class with it PRINTED before you arrive. I will not allow anyone to go to the copy center during class, so bring it in hand!

Block F:
Good legal work today, folks! We will hear the ruling from our judges tomorrow!
For tonight, read and annotate Chapters 11 and 12 in Frankenstein.
Also, you should procure a copy of your next and final book club book for MONDAY of next week!
Study your vocabulary as well!

Block G:
Tomorrow you will present your arguments to our judge (Juan). Be prepared with your best evidence.
For tonight, please read and annotate Chapter 10 in Frankenstein.
Study your vocabulary as well!

Block B:
For tonight, fill out your chart on what you know about the 1920's! We will begin our time travel back to the Jazz Age when we start The Great Gatsby on Tuesday of next week!
Work on your essay revision this weekend, and don't forget to study your vocabulary as well!

Wednesday 2/24/16: Homework

Block G:
Using your three layer timeline, consider whether Victor's actions are JUSTIFIED or CRIMINAL?  Make a case in paragraph using evidence from the text. Bring your paragraph to class tomorrow and we will have a robust debate.



Block B:
1.Prepare responses to the three seminar questions I gave your for the Socratic seminar tomorrow. Write your responses in full paragraphs on a separate sheet of paper and bring it to our next class.

2. Study your new vocabulary words

Block C:
Good work today in your seminar!
1.Tonight, make a list of 10 things you know about the 1920's time period. Bring in your list and be prepared to share what you know when we meet next.

Tuesday 2/23/16: Homework

Block B:
Write a CER paragraph in response to the questions on the Serial handout we reviewed today. Consider the importance of DENOTATION and CONNOTATION in your response.

Block C:
Add a paragraph that addresses the updates we learned about today in Adnan's case to your Socratic Seminar questions. Be prepared to show your work at the start of the class tomorrow in preparation for the seminar we will have.

Block E:
Your CHOICE piece is due on Friday this week. We will have lab time on Thursday.

Block F:
1. Fill out the T-chart we made in class today with textual evidence. Then, respond to the question "Are Victor's actions JUSTIFIED or CRIMINAL" using your notes. Be ready for a seminar when we return.
2. Use Good Reads to find a new book for our final book club of your high school career. Choose a good one!

Block F:
1. Read and annotate through Chapter 10 in Frankenstein for Tuesday after break.
2. Prepare for your final book club meeting on Monday after break.

Block G:
Read and annotate through Chapter 9 in Frankenstein for Wednesday after break. You will have time to read in class on Monday after the break as well.

Block B:
1. Type up your midyear essay and save it in a google doc. Print out your introductory paragraph and bring it to class on Tuesday when we return

Block C:
1. Prepare for the Socratic seminar on Serial that we will have when we return. On a separate sheet of paper, prepare your response to all three questions I gave you.
2. Revise your introductory paragraph, using the handout we gave you in class on Friday. Print out your revisions and bring your new intro paragraph to class on Tuesday.

Thursday 2.11.16: Homework

Block B:
Using your midyear exam draft,  complete the Literary Essay Planning Guide. Be thorough and thoughtful as you complete this first part of the revision  project.

Block C:
Finish the questions of the handout we started in class today on DENOTATION and CONNOTATION. Write a CER paragraph in response to the last question on the handout, using your notes from listening to the Serial podcast to help you.

Block E:
Today we started to consider what makes for a compelling protagonist. We looked closely at Updike's "A&P" and started watching the film About a Boy based on Nick Hornby's novel. Over the vacation week, read and annotate Margaret Atwood's short story "The Stone Mattress." We will consider all three texts when we return.

2. Read and annotate "A&P" by John Updike for tomorrow.

Block F:
1. Read and annotate Chapters 1-3 of Frankenstein for Friday. Take note of Victor's family tree and the details of his childhood.

Block C:
Complete the Literary Analysis Planning guide that we started in class, using your essay draft. Be thorough and thoughtful!

Block E:
Write your one-page CHOICE piece for Friday. Save it to your Google folder and PRINT out a copy BEFORE you arrive to class.

Block F:
1.Finish preparing for your presentations tomorrow. We will start when the bell rings, so be sure all of your materials are in order before you arrive.
2. Read the intro materials for Frankenstein as well as Letters 1-4 for Tuesday.
3. Prepare for book club on Tuesday.

Block G:
1. Good work on the presentations today. We will finish them on Monday when we return.

Block F:
Prepare for your presentation on Friday.
Read the introductory materials on Mary Shelley, as well as Letters 1-4 in the novel for Tuesday.
Read you book club book for the meeting on Tuesday 2/9/16.
Vocabulary quiz on Friday 2/12.

Block  G:
Prepare for your presentation tomorrow. Be sure your mind map contains MORE than just story summary. Your presentation should feature the insights you've gathered in looking at all three texts together.

Block B:
We will finish Restrepo on Friday. Be sure to take careful notes while you are watching and bring your notes with you to each class.
Read your independent reading book

Block C:
Revisit your midterm essay and use the writing checklist to determine what areas you need to revise. Bring your checklist and your essay to class for a writing workshop on Friday.

Write your "Territories of Writing" list in your journal and attach one artifact as well.
Choice piece due Friday. We will have lab time on Thursday.

Monday 2/1/16

Block C:
1. Study your new vocabulary words by making flashcards or a quizlet.
2. Write a three part response to the film Restrepo.  Use the directions we set up today in class (summarize, respond, connect).

Block E:
Read and annotate "The Pony Problem" and write a reading response (using the instructions on the goat sheet).
Your Choice piece is due on Friday.

Block F:
Work on your theme project and presentation. You will have class time on Wednesday and part of Thursday, and all presentations will happen on Friday.

Block G:
Work on your mind map due on Thursday. You will make your presentation in class on Thursday, and you will have the entire block on Wednesday to work on your map. Remember to include lots of good evidence from the texts as you make your connections.
